Several officers visited Jan’s Cresskill Barber Shop on Union Avenue for complementary shaves.
“Both of my parents passed away when I was in my teens, so this event is meaningful,” Capt.Joseph Trubetti said.
A total of 18 of 22 police officers and two dispatchers donated at least $50, raised additional funds, and followed Police Chief Edward Wrixon's lead in supporting awareness for all kinds of cancer.
“I liked it.” said Lt. Ted Cebulski, who was one of hair-cutter Jim Russo's many clients of the day. “That was the first time I had (a shave) like that. It was great to see a turnout for the event."
Officers ate sandwiches, while some joked that the chief should allow them to be pampered once a month, or grow hair until the end of the year to raise even more funds.
“I lost my daughter to cancer, and I feel a connection to the cause," shop owner Janice DiGiacomo said. 'It's my pleasure to help."
